WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The final spots for the semifinals in the men's single sculls event at the 2015 USRowing Senior World Championships Trials II were decided in repechage racing Monday evening on Mercer Lake, in West Windsor, N.J.
Of the five crews, two advanced and three were eliminated. The six athletes that advanced from the Monday morning heats will join them on the line for the Tuesday morning semifinals.
In total, four events are being contested in the event including the men's single sculls, men's double sculls, men's pair and the men's quadruple sculls.
Advancing from the first of two repechages was Penn A.C. Rowing Association's Justin Keen (Philadelphia, Pa.) who won in a time of 7:25.71. Following him, James Dietz (Amherst, Mass.) advanced from the second race in a time of 7:28.94.
"I think for the afternoon the focus was just to get out and secure the race early, and then obviously in these conditions, to row clean," said Dietz. "That's the hardest part. Once you do that, try to conserve energy."
Racing will resume Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. with the men's two single semifinals and the repechage of the men's pair. Wednesday finals will begin at 7:30 a.m.
